UCL is one of the world’s top multidisciplinary universities. At its establishment in 1826, UCL was radical in its philosophy and responsiveness to the needs of society, and this ethos – that excellence should go hand-in-hand with enriching society – continues today. UCL was the first university in England to welcome students of any religion, the first to welcome women on equal terms with men and the first to hold both a Silver Athena SWAN award and a Race Equality Charter Bronze Award. UCL’s excellence extends across all academic disciplines: from one of Europe’s largest and most productive hubs for biomedical science interacting with the leading London hospitals, to world-renowned centres for architecture (UCL Bartlett), medicine (UCL Medical School), fine art (UCL Slade School) and education (UCL Institute of Education). Global rankings consistently place it among the top ten universities in the world. With 47,000 students, 14,500 staff and an annual income of over £1.65bn, UCL is one of the largest and most complex universities in the UK.
With the concept of “Valuing our staff and delivering on equality and diversity” sitting at the heart of the UCL 2034 Strategic Plan, there is a fantastic platform to build on, including ensuring the University is able to attract, develop and retain the outstanding talent needed to deliver its academic mission; fostering a more diverse and inclusive UCL community which reflects its position as London’s Global University; creating an environment where all UCL people are supported and valued leading to an inspired and engaged UCL community; and developing a leading-edge HR service that drives innovative people solutions across the institution.
In delivering the above, the successful candidate will possess significant strategic leadership experience, gained in a large, complex organisation at a requisite level of seniority. They will bring a track record of creating a high impact, customer-focussed, HR function that supports change and delivers continual improvement across a broad range of stakeholders. A proven ability to enhance staff engagement, advance equality, diversity and inclusion and deliver high-quality, value-for-money outcomes will also be vital.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an individual that is genuinely committed to the mission and ethos of UCL and the wider purpose and values of higher education to deliver transformational impact through its people.
