With nearly 550 employees and Partners, including 300 fee-earners, our client is a premier regional law firm with a particular strength in the South/South West. With an annual turnover of around £50m and ambitions through its sector strategy to continue to grow its regional, national and international client base, the firm offers a broad range of legal services, with many of its lawyers recognised as leaders in their field. The HR Director reports to the Managing Partner and sits on the Board to help set and deliver the firmwide strategy and to truly influence the future success of the firm. The firm recognises that the right talent, retained and developed, will take the firm forward to achieve its growth ambitions. The firm has invested heavily in attracting and recruiting high quality Partners and lawyers from leading City of London and national firms as well as best of breed business services teams to support the firm. To date, it has built a strong, robust and successful HR team which requires ongoing visionary and strategic leadership as regards recruitment, performance management, retention and development of the firm’s people. The necessary investment and support is in place to achieve the people related objectives in the firm’s strategy.

The team currently comprises 18 people, which includes the HR Director, the Head of L&D, the Recruitment Manager, and two HR Business Partners. There is ongoing scope to restructure the team to consider what resources are necessary and appropriate for the delivery of high-quality business partnering and operational HR support.

The ideal candidate for this role will be able to demonstrate leadership skills to continue to develop the HR team as a highly organised and respected professional support function; the strategic thinking to attract and retain the best talent in the market; the technical skills to ensure the lawyers stay at their most productive; the interpersonal and commercial skills to operate at the centre of the decision making of the firm and the creative thinking to ensure the firm is a market leader as an employer. Professional services/partnership experience is strongly preferred and it is anticipated that the successful candidate is already operating in a leadership role given the capability of the existing team.
