Make history as our Director of People, Inclusion and Change
Domesday Book. Shakespeare’s will. Tweets from Downing Street. Records of war and of peace. These are just some of the 11 million items held by The National Archives. Our collection is one of the largest in the world. But being rich in history doesn't mean that we’re stuck in the past. With our transformative strategy, Archives for Everyone, and a highly motivated and engaged workforce made up of a surprising and inspirational mixture of talents, we’re looking ahead to building a culture that enables and supports 21st Century working and an organisation that reflects the increasingly diverse society we serve. Join us as Director of People, Inclusion and Change and you’ll lead the change that will transform us into an archive that is truly for everyone.
About the role
The National Archives is staffed by some of the most knowledgeable, committed and friendly people you’re ever likely to work with. This is your chance to work with great colleagues across the organisation, to inform and empower them to deliver the best, most innovative, inclusive and effective institution ever known.
Taking on a new board-level role, as the Director of People, Inclusion and Change, you’ll lead a refresh of our values, and develop and amplify a fresh, innovative employer brand that will resonate with diverse audiences and act as a driver of culture change. You’ll lead, inspire and develop the HR function, ensuring that the resources and efforts of the team of HR professionals are harnessed to make sure your vision for a new people strategy is accompanied with practical planning and a pro-active approach that will see it become reality.
You will also be responsible for leading our work to drive the changes needed for us to become the Inclusive Archive for our people, our audiences, and our collection – with diversity and inclusion integral to our culture and decision-making.
You’ll be a brilliant leader, able to inspire individuals and teams across our organisation to embrace an inclusive culture and realise our potential to truly become an archive for everyone. You’ll be CIPD qualified (or have the equivalent experience), with the emotional intelligence, credibility and experience across the full spectrum of HR specialisms to achieve this.
We’re looking for someone who doesn't shy away from challenging the status quo, so you’ll have a strong track record of leading significant culture change in organisations. Strongly solutions-focused, you will help ensure that every choice we make pushes us on to become the inclusive, entrepreneurial and disruptive national archive our country, and the world, needs us to be. All the while fostering an inclusive culture, which engages our talented people in making our aspirations the reality.
Join us here in beautiful Kew, just 10 minutes’ walk from the Overground and Underground stations, and you can expect an excellent range of benefits, including a generous remuneration package, civil service pension and flexible working. We also offer wellbeing resources (e.g. on site therapists) and have an on-site gym, restaurant, shop and staff bar (all facilities subject to current Covid 19 restrictions).
Closing date: Monday 22nd February at 11.55pm
