Our client is a FTSE 250 business and a leading provider of Services in the Region across 14 sites and 3,000 employees, based across the North East and East Yorkshire. The role of Head of People and Engagement is a pivotal role to develop the OD strategy and People plan to align people, policy and practice to deliver the needs of the Company plan through an integrated employee value proposition that enhances the whole employee experience. A highly visible role for a transformational HR leader to bring positive change to the company’s approach to employee engagement, supporting business leaders and managers as they set out to modernise their approaches to become recognised as a leading employer of choice as well as building high performing teams, demonstrating the company’s values and behaviours, to enhance and excel at customer service delivery.

 

Reporting to the Operations Director, the Head of People and Engagement will work in partnership with the business to re-invent and modernise their approach to its people whilst supporting and enabling positive change across the company, to maximise engagement across all parts of the workforce. Through effective communication, influencing, and practical advice, you will lead the transformation and implementation of the organisation’s engagement and development agenda, including the design and delivery of effective engagement and communication plans across a diverse, unionised workforce. An important part of the role will be to foster a high performing culture, focusing business leaders on developing a progressive culture, ensuring their approach to talent, coaching and leadership development is aligned with their OD strategy so their people can truly unlock their potential, leading to tangible benefits for the organisation, by way of talent pipelines, recruitment and retention rates and lower absence rates.

 

As a member of the management team, you will support the development and delivery of all elements of the strategic and operational People agenda, including people administration, talent development and the leadership of the Recruitment and Training teams, whilst identifying opportunities for collaboration and continuous improvement. You will also play a key role in driving continuous improvement of the Diversity and Inclusion agenda to enable everyone to work collaboratively in an inclusive, performance focused environment whilst also maintaining strong relationships with recognised employee groups and trade unions.

 

To be considered for this role, you will an experienced HR Manager or Head of People who has led a HR function in a commercial, unionised, multi-site business and ideally worked within a Group structure. A strong communicator and coach, with proven relationship building skills, the successful incumbent will also be able to demonstrate a track record in driving employee engagement and transformational change in an unionised environment.  Supported by the Managing Director, their leadership team and the Group People Director, this role offers an ambitious, tenacious individual, the next step in their HR career.

Based in Gateshead with travel across the North East and East Yorkshire.
