The Graduate Resourcing Team are responsible for the attraction, recruitment, development and retention of trainees across all of our offices. We are therefore instrumental to the continuing growth of one of the most respected law firms in our chosen markets and sectors.

Purpose of the Role

The Senior Graduate Advisor for Trainee Development is responsible for managing development of our trainee solicitors in all of our offices.

This is a 12 month role (FTC) based in Manchester.

Our Requirements

  • Assist the Head of Resourcing to develop a clear strategy for trainee development
  • Support the Head of Resourcing in developing and executing the 'Graduate Trainee Programme' (in collaboration with Graduate Partners, L&D and other key contacts) to include the introduction of SQE
  • Assist the Head of Resourcing in the development and execution of a programme of continuous improvement across graduate trainee programmes
  • Work closely with the other Graduate Advisors and Graduate Partners to ensure a seamless graduate service across the firm
  • Manage and delegate effectively to junior members of the team

Future Trainees

  • Managing the offer paperwork process for trainees based outside of Scotland
  • Conducting regular progress chats with future trainees at all BPP campuses
  • Planning, managing and attending the Firm's annual trainee CSR trip, assisted by the other Graduate Advisors
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment of future trainee tuition fees and maintenance grants

Current Trainees

Full management of the Firm's trainee seat move process, ensuring effective utilisation and distribution of trainee resource across divisions and offices meeting both the Firm's and clients' needs

  • Monitor and manage key performance trends and issues across the Firm, becoming a key point of escalation for performance review moderation meetings
  • Responsibility for all trainee ER issues outside of Scotland
  • Conduct trainee progress chats in each seat.
  • Working closely with the Training Principal to ensure that AG fulfils its obligations to trainee solicitors in accordance with SRA and Law Society rules and regulations
  • Management of the Firm's qualification process including monitoring key trends and issues
  • Working with the other Graduate Advisor to ensure all relevant paperwork is processed and submitted to the SRA / Law Society in a timely manner
  • Plan and manage the Firm's bonus and salary process for trainees, with assistance from the Head of Resourcing
  • Full responsibility for the planning and day to day management of trainee budget lines relating to trainee development
  • Responsibility for communicating all key messages to the Firm's trainees

Knowledge, skills and experience required

  • Graduate calibre, CIPD qualified or equivalent
  • A demonstrable ability to influence at senior levels; excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A strong team orientation
  • Tenacity, resilience and patience when dealing with difficult and challenging issues
  • Excellent relationship builder both within the business and with external contacts
  • Managing expectations with internal stakeholders effectively so as to maintain credibility and professionalism
  • Capable of delivering accurate and commercial advice and keeping employment law knowledge up to date
  • Project management skills and experience - planning and organising multiple tasks/activities/projects to ensure that deadlines are achieved
  • Must be highly organised, a good time manager and able to effectively juggle conflicting demands whilst maintaining a high attention to detail at all times
