Senior People Advisor

Who are we?

London Marathon Events Limited organises some of the biggest and best mass participation sports events in the UK including the Virgin Money London Marathon, the Prudential RideLondon festival of cycling and Swim Serpentine.

We are a not-for-profit organisation and any surplus we make is given to The London Marathon Charitable Trust to improve sports and recreation in the areas where we organise events.

The Job

We are looking for a CIPD qualified HR professional who is inspired to drive new and better ways of working at  London Marathon Events. Our People Strategy is to be one of the top 100 companies to work for by 2021 and we want a Senior People Advisor to help get us there.

The Role  

Senior People Advisor (SPA) duties:   Recruitment

  • Screen all shortlisted candidates
  • First stage interviewer for junior and mid-level roles
  • Set up interviews
  • Respond to all applicants (via system) and give personal feedback to all interviewed candidates
  • Set up and manage Apprenticeship programme
  • Report on candidate sources
  • Responsible for all New Starter Paperwork and checks

Onboarding

  • Manage induction programme for all new starters and returners from maternity
  • Work with IT on required equipment and timely set up for new starters
  • Engagement
  • Analyse staff survey results with commentary for LME and LMCT
  • Manage all flexible working requests
  • Keep staff informed of key information (internal comms)

Learning & Development

  • C-me accredited
  • Work with Head of People to implement strategy
  • Run internal training sessions and workshops
  • Log all training on People system
  • Advise and coach staff and middle managers on people-related matters/policy
  • Administer Performance Review process
  • Organise Staff Conference with Hospitality Lead – overseen by Head of People 

 Health & Wellbeing 

  • Manage staff wellbeing – wellbeing allowance, flexible working requests 
  • Family friendly policy expert

 Other

  • Diversity champion 
  • SMART goal champion
  • Keeps up-to-date on Employment Legislation and GDPR to ensure compliance – keeps People & Culture Guide updated 
  • Raises Departmental Purchase Orders
  • Works closely with Head of People on bonus and salary reviews

 Ideal SPA would have

  • Previous experience as a (Senior) People Advisor in a fast paced environment
  • Experience of leading and facilitating training sessions
  • Experience in building strong relationships with teams and stakeholders
  • Experience and confidence in challenging as well as supporting managers
  • Experience of applying best practice and a commercial outlook to people issues
  • CIPD qualified
  • Fun, team player who works collaboratively for the success of the wider team
  • Desire to develop your capability to provide longer term strategic support
  • Experience in handling employee relations cases
  • Deals with confidential information with tact and diplomacy, 100% discreet
  • Confident communicator, comfortable communicating with employees at all levels, flexing style as necessary
  • Able to manage own emotions in the face of pressure, set-backs or dealing with provocative situations
  • Excellent organisational skills, always meeting deadlines
  • Highly numerate with good business acumen
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to build and maintain strong, meaningful relationships
  • Happy to deal with ambiguity, fluid situations and changing deadlines
  • Able to balance priorities with the ability to handle the day to day workload as well as projects
  • Considers the bigger picture as well as the detail
