At the University of Kent, we are looking for a highly capable professional who has the flexibility to support major organisational change in the immediate future - and then focus on the ongoing challenges and responsibilities of Assistant Director – Employee Relations and People Policy.
Kent is a UK top 25 university employing over 6,000 staff in a wide range of occupations, some of them at our European centres. We are now embarking on a transformative project that will incorporate the devolution of HR support to reconfigured Schools and Departments. In the new position of Assistant Director – Employee Relations and Policy, you will play an influential part in the senior corporate HR team tasked with ensuring that we have in place the strategic and operational frameworks and risk management for long-term success.
It is envisaged that you will join at a key phase of the transition and that initially you will be expected to take on a varied portfolio supporting the organisational design and delivery, including project work and managing business partners. Thereafter your role will concentrate on the crucial need to ensure effective management of Employee Relations - maximising staff engagement and productivity, identifying and managing employment-related risks and liabilities, and facilitating effective change management.
Besides flexibility, you will need to demonstrate a high level of Employee Relations expertise, a track record developing context-specific HR policy, and a depth of experience gained in a large, complex, unionised and, ideally, professionally biased organisation.
You must have the confidence to hit the ground running, together with the knowledge and credibility to work closely and effectively with senior leaders on high-risk Employee Relations matters, as well as with Trades Unions and staff representatives.
