Role: Head of Reward

Location: Glasgow

Reporting to: Head of HR, Global Operations

Hours of work – Monday to Friday, 9:00 - 5:30, however you will be required to work such hours as are necessary to carry out your duties

Department/ Role Overview:

To drive global reward strategy supporting standardisation and efficiency with local implementation where appropriate.  Acting both strategically to drive development of policy but also operationally in support of the delivery of the policy.  Act as coach and advisor to the HR leadership team, local HRBPs and when appropriate, Operational Managers on matters of reward. 

Main responsibilities:


Leading the development and delivery of the Firm's remuneration strategy (both base pay and bonus) in close collaboration with key stakeholders including HR leadership, executive, country and functional leadership teams.

Ensuring the remuneration strategy is aligned to the firm's culture and values and promotes consistency and fairness.  Ensure appropriate policies are maintained supporting good corporate governance.

Leading the delivery on a variety of core global remuneration activities, such as firm bonus scheme design and implementation; annual pay review; benchmarking and advising for all employees.  Providing advice to the Chief People Office and Head of Partner HR on Partner remuneration matters when appropriate.    Ensuring budget sign off and compliance.

Developing and delivering reward communications globally to increase the understanding of the value of total reward within the firm.

Preparing Executive Team papers and reviewing and drafting of appropriate reports.

Working with HRBPs (or when appropriate, Operational Managers) in each office and the HR Operations Manager for APAC, based in Brisbane, to ensure that local remuneration complies with local legislation including inter alia equal pay, minimum wage etc. and that local expertise is sufficient to support the current and future needs of the business.  When appropriate, provide coaching or advice/direct practical support when required.

Managing relationships with external providers to drive participation in salary surveys and relevant market data comparisons when necessary.

Managing the team and liaise effectively with central shared resources or Finance to support remuneration activities and processes such as financial modelling on bonus outcomes.

Delivering global job evaluation of all positions, ensuring global consistency and taking into account the nature of various functions and jurisdictions.

Work closely with the Global Delivery Centre (GDC) to find efficiencies and shift delivery of processes, including payroll (which sits currently in Reward), into the GDC.


Design and deliver a global benefit strategy and structure taking account technology, engagement, finance etc. and ensuring it suits local benefit offerings and requirements.

Act as advisor and coordinator with HRBPs/HR Ops Manager, Brisbane and Operational Managers to implement the benefit strategy.

Vendor management of all insurers and benefits providers and moving us towards a partnership with a global benefits broker for both employee and partner benefits.

Responsible for UK pension provision but have a watching brief on retirement options within the firm..

Health and Wellbeing

Working closely with internal stakeholders (including Diversity and Inclusion) to further develop a global H&W strategy with local implementation to include considerations around PMI and mental health amongst others.


Delivering relevant management information reports on areas of responsibility

Working closely with the Head of HR, Global Operations and the SHRM, Operations, support the delivery of globalisation and standardisation within Reward by:

  • Improving technology (i.e. implementation of a compensation tool)
  • Reviewing and delivering global policies around maternity, paternity, shared parental leave, paternity etc.

Team management

Currently responsible for three direct reports based across London and Glasgow.

Work closely with the HR leadership to develop a global reward team (virtually if appropriate), supporting all jurisdictions

Risk and Control: Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with our regulatory requires and internal policies.

Essential skills and experience: 

  • Extensive and in-depth international reward experience with the ability to influence and negotiate with people at all levels across a matrix driven business.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to balance strategic versatility with strong operational focus and the ability to take a hands on approach when necessary.
  • Highly proactive with a positive customer focussed attitude to the wider business and greater HR team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with reward and benefit tools.
  • Experience of leading key remuneration projects with a broad knowledge of modern reward thinking and good practice.
  • Solid vendor management experience.
  • People management experience.
  • Previous experience of working in a professional services firm would be advantageous.
