Amongst the world leaders in behavioural science, the Behavioural Insights Team (BIT) began life as a six-person team within the UK government. Since mutualising as a social purpose company in 2014, BIT’s impact has been extraordinary. Once nicknamed ‘the Nudge unit’ by the media, we now have 180 full-time employees, many of whom hold a doctorate. Operating across six international offices, we’ve developed a global reputation for innovative, evidence-based behavioural consulting. Employees own a significant proportion of the business, and our other principal shareholders are the UK Cabinet Office and innovation charity, Nesta. Every so often, Nobel laureates drop in to speak at town-hall meetings: it really is that kind of place.

This agility and rapid growth has created remarkable opportunities. Our new scale and reach needs a resilient organisational infrastructure that can support the team’s fast-paced and highly mutable work. HR is one of our critical success factors, and we’re looking for an exceptional professional to create and develop a well-calibrated mix of effective HR strategy and robust people processes. We’ll also expect you to lead on issues such as reward, recruitment, leadership development and more.

As an expert adviser to colleagues at all levels, you must be intellectually curious and articulate. You’ll thrive in a discursive environment, where anything is up for analysis and examination. Our team is the most stimulating place most of us have ever worked, but BIT is not for everyone; so you’ll need to demonstrate that, like us, you can strike the balance between an elegant idea and its effective real-world application. Though you’ll need significant experience at a strategic level, our size and culture mean that you’ll occasionally also need to be prepared to get on with whatever needs doing at that moment. We’re looking for someone who can recognise, but more importantly relish, the challenges and rewards of such a unique role.
