The Team

People Consulting is an integral part of KPMG’s Management Consultancy practice and a growing part of our business. The team focuses on transforming the performance of organisations by changing the way people are lead, managed and developed. We do this by focusing on two areas of the change agenda 1) delivering the people agenda on large scale, complex, transformational change programmes and 2) transforming the HR function. We have five 4 service networks: Business transformation, HR Transformation, Learning and Workforce Optimisation.

 

The National Markets Consulting Team in the UK Midlands Region (principal offices Birmingham) currently consists of over 60 staff. The practice is growing very strongly. We want an experienced Senior Manager who is confident, while working with support, to be a work winner – the role is based in our Birmingham office.

 

The Role

The role reports to the People Consulting Director based in Birmingham.
  
We are seeking a talented individual with experience leading the delivery of HR Transformation. This includes: HR Strategy, HR Operating Models, Process Design, Governance, and Technology. We are looking for a new Principal Consultant who can help drive our continued growth.
The successful candidate must look to have experience across all of the following areas:

  • HR Assessments: Running HR Assessments which review the current operating environment with the objective to identify the issues and opportunities for improvement
  • HR Strategy Alignment & Planning: Leading engagements, setting expectations for project scope, timing, resources, and outcomes in line with defining the HR strategy
  • Service Delivery Model: Implementing a Service Delivery Model which includes roles, responsibilities, span of control within HR, governance structures, HR Shared Services strategy, development and set up
  • HR Technology and Strategy: awareness of HR technology and how it supports and impacts HR service delivery
  • HR service delivery model. Experience of leading an HR cloud system implementation is desirable but not essential
  • Business Case and Roadmap: Building the business case to demonstrate a value proposition for senior management to make a decision to move forward projects

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Lead the delivery of high quality client project work for HR Transformation assignments, working closely with colleagues from other services within People Consulting
  • Provide specialist HR Transformation advice and work closely with the client leads and team members to successfully deliver project outcomes
  • Work closely with the leadership in People Consulting to: drive business growth; deliver outstanding client work; and be the face of People & Change to the external market
  • Contribute to the business development and sales initiatives including bid, proposal and contract / commercial negotiations with our clients
  • Take a role in the growth of the team and wider practice, sharing knowledge, developing thought leadership and supporting the career aspirations of team members

 

The Person 

The qualifications and skills for these roles are not prescriptive, but successful candidates should have extensive knowledge and skills in HR Transformation and at least 1 other area detailed above. They must also be able to demonstrate their capability, understanding and experience of a significant number of the following:
 
- Leading business development initiatives including bid, proposal and contract/commercial negotiation , (evidence of a network at around HRD level)
- Responsibility for standalone deliverables that add significantly to the overall success of a project or workstream 
- Commercial awareness evidenced by an ability to identify and grow business opportunities 
- Lead a team of KPMG professionals on client engagements and provide leadership and a shaping delivery approach
- Coach team members to ensure excellent client delivery whilst also enabling their career development 
- Acting as a subject matter expert in advising clients to maximise benefits while reducing risks 
- Managing competing agendas/priorities and establish achievable programmes/projects 
- Qualifications and/or accreditation in one or more psychometric assessments tool 
- Report to and demonstrate diplomacy when managing key stakeholders 
- Use your expertise, knowledge and experience to further develop and promote the core HR Transformation propositions 
- Take a significant role in the growth of the team and wider practice, sharing knowledge and supporting the development of other team members 

In addition, applicants should be able to demonstrate the following: 
- High levels of personal integrity and be a team player with commercial awareness 
- Strong drive and resilience to overcome challenges or difficult situations 
- Strong communication skills, written and oral 
- Team leadership experience 
- Strong proficiency with PowerPoint and Excel 
- Numeracy and the ability to handle complex date and analysis
Qualifications including CIPD, CIMA, MBA and Prince2 would be beneficial but not essential. 

Experience and Background 

The experience and background for these roles are not prescriptive, but successful candidates are likely to be able to demonstrate many of the following: 

- Experience of working for a major advisory business 
- Experience helping re-structure HR functions / teams to deliver a more optimised service; with deep, hands-on experience of HR (e.g. developing and delivering a workforce plan, target operating model etc) 
- Responsibility for standalone deliverables that add significantly to the overall success of a project or workstream 
- Passionate about your discipline with a history of continuous learning 
- Commercial awareness evidenced by an ability to identify business opportunities 
- Comfortable with ambiguity and flexible in approach 
- Drive and resilience to overcome challenges or setbacks 
- Strong communicator able to build lasting client relationships
