Working at Guide Dogs is much more than just a job. Through the values that guide our work, we make a real difference - and change lives.

From our humble beginnings in 1931 when the first four British Guide Dogs were trained, Guide Dogs has grown to become one of the UK's best known and best loved charities and the world's largest breeder and trainer of working dogs. We opened the doors of our world-class National Breeding Centre in 2011 and have now bred over 9000 puppies. That's a lot of life changers! And thanks to our 1600 dedicated staff and 16,000 volunteers we've helped over 29,000 people to achieve life-changing independence.

And our ambition does not stop here. Over the coming years we're looking to increase the number of guide dog partnerships, but we're also developing a broader range of services that will help more people who are blind and partially sighted to get out and about on their own terms.

To help us achieve these ambitions we are now seeking an exceptional Director of People and Performance to join our senior leadership team.

As an Executive Director, the Director of People and Performance will play an important role across all aspects of the strategy and management of Guide Dogs. The People and Performance Directorate is responsible for Legal, People (staff and volunteers) and Safeguarding and as Director you will bring together these departments to deliver the overall People Strategy to lead us through a period of organisational and cultural change.

This is a critical role for which we are seeking a leader and role model who displays integrity, exemplifies and champions our values and behaviours and shares our dedication to putting people at the heart of everything we do. Your natural enthusiasm, drive and personality will engage, inspire and influence customers, colleagues and partners alike. You'll also be resourceful, innovative and a self-starter - confident and proactive in generating and leading new initiatives, but with the emotional intelligence to understand the context in which Guide Dogs operates and shape its People strategy accordingly.

With key focuses on developing our leadership to become world-class, leading cultural change and executing our new volunteering strategy, we are seeking an individual with proven experience of leading cultural change and a strong track record in leadership development, organisational design and development and championing diversity and inclusion. As someone looking to build upon their experience as a collegiate member of a senior leadership team and supporting cross directorate business decisions, you'll bring a clear and comprehensive understanding of the link between HR and business strategy, underpinned by a strong commercial mindset and a track record of driving continuous improvement and building high performing teams.

Every hour, someone in the UK starts to lose their sight. We know we can do more to reach more children and adults and for them to walk with us as we embark on our new strategy. If you believe you have what we need to be our new Director of People and Performance and would like to know more, please contact our advising Consultants at Oakleaf Partnership.
