Senior Reward Manager - EMEA/US, Asia Pac & Middle East (12 month FTC)

Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Reward Manager - EMEA/US, Asia Pac & Middle East to join our London office on a 12 month fixed term contract. 

This role will be a subject matter expert on all aspects of international reward; fixed and variable pay, non-consolidated awards, incentives, recognition, and reward communications. and will be the key point of contact and trusted advisor to HR colleagues and business leaders (EMEA/US, Asia Pac & Middle East), providing support to develop and implement reward strategies and policies, and advise on general reward management matters.

Department purpose 

The HR team at Allen & Overy provides a first class service to the business, offering strategic HR business advice at the business team level and quality support services in the full range of HR functions through specialist teams such as learning & development, resourcing, reward, employee relations, payroll, systems and HR administration.

The reward & benefits team provides expert advice and support on all aspects of reward to both the HR teams in the line and business leaders. This includes developing new policies and reviewing existing ones to ensure our offering remains attractive and competitive.

Role and responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with HR Heads & Managers and key client groups:
    • Find opportunities to engage with them on a regular basis
    • Take time to understand their local issues and priorities
    • Develop suggestions for support that can be provided centrally
  • Ensure local reward strategies / policies are aligned to our global reward principles and HR strategy;
    • Understand existing reward strategies / policies
    • Embed the global reward survey and analyse results each year and share with the global team
    • Look for opportunities to develop globally consistent reward strategies / policies.
  • Lead the Global Reward Network; set the agenda, share knowledge and best practice ideas with colleagues from across the network, provide thought leadership to stimulate ideas and discussion.
  • Lead global reward projects i.e. where deliverables will be implemented in multiple locations:
    • Define project objectives and deliverables
    • Manage virtual project teams, global stakeholders and global budgets
    • Provide thought leadership and expert advice including information on market practice and access to the latest data or research
    • Share approaches taken by other A&O offices and encourage collaboration
    • Develop commercially sound solutions for consideration by key stakeholders
    • Present recommendations to senior stakeholders, challenge where necessary, push the boundaries, innovate
  • Support HR Heads & Managers developing local reward strategies / policies:
    • Provide thought leadership and expert advice including information on market practice and access to the latest data or research
    • Share approaches taken by other A&O offices and encourage collaboration
    • Assist in the preparation or review of materials 
    • Attend calls / meetings with local stakeholders when necessary
  • Respond and provide advice relating to ad hoc reward queries as necessary
  • Improve efficiency by identifying opportunities for collaboration, process improvement or economies of scale and link in with other specialist or HR teams when required
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing and potential third party providers and monitor both quality of service and value for money
  • Review arrangements with third party providers of market data:
    • Manage data submissions centrally wherever possible
    • For locations that do not currently use third party data, establish whether there are any suitable providers
    • Investigate the possibility of WTW providing data on a global basis
    • Liaise with providers to obtain ad hoc or bespoke market analysis as required
  • Assist with the running of the Global Reward Network calls:
    • Propose agenda items
    • Produce summary notes of key decisions and actions
    • Ensure actions are tracked and progress is made by revisiting on each call
  • Provide input to the budget process:
    • Provide HR with budget assumptions for reward team items such as market data surveys and professional fees
  • Develop and maintain international reward expertise:
    • Stay abreast of market developments, particularly in the legal sector
    • Follow the development of new legislation that will impact reward policy
    • Identify innovative ideas or best practice from other global organisations
    • Understand local markets and who our are key competitors are for talent
    • Develop external networks and attend relevant conferences 

Key requirements

  • Significant reward experience, preferably in more than one geographical location and ideally with a background in the legal sector or professional services
  • In addition to the reward areas outlined in the role purpose above, a general understanding of pensions and benefits and how they contribute to total reward is also desirable
  • Excellent influencing, communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills
  • Proven track record of interacting at all levels of seniority and establishing oneself as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert
  • Excellent organisational and analytical skills
  • Ability to balance priorities, manage upwards and sideways and operate independently
  • Excellent IT skills, especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to balance judgment and logic when making decisions and delivering commercial, pragmatic solutions that are right for the business
