It is an exciting time for HR at the University of Birmingham and the Director of Human Resources is an appointment of strategic importance. Key priorities will be to:
- Develop and deliver the University’s ambitious and forward-looking HR strategy, enabling the University to continue to enhance its performance in research and teaching and to attract, develop and retain talented people;
- Enhance the quality of HR services delivered to customers;
- Enable the delivery of those services through ‘New Core’, (implementation of new HR, Finance and Payroll IT systems in 2019) and the adoption of streamlined and simplified policies, processes and guidance;
- Identify and develop areas in which “best in class” HR services will deliver competitive advantage to the University.
This remit requires a blend of emotional intelligence, intellectual confidence and capability, academic empathy, and strategic leadership to effectively manage a budget of £5.1m and lead a team of c.100 fte. With the personal qualities to succeed in a complex research intensive University; the successful applicant will have a natural ability to build rapport and trust with diverse groups and individuals and to empathise with academic endeavour.
He or she will bring the skills and attributes of a senior HR leader to support the University’s strategic aspirations and operational HR requirements and will contribute to a wider range of leadership and management issues within Professional Services and across the University.
