Learning & Development Manager

Oakleaf Partnership are recruiting a superb opportunity for our client, a niche law firm, looking for a Learning & Development Manager. This individual will be ultimately responsible for the designing, developing and managing strategic learning programmes to support the business nationally.

This is a highly desirable position working for an innovative law firm with high levels of employee engagement and where HR is highly valued by the partnership.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Consulting at Partner level across the firm in order to understand business goals and to identify learning interventions to support these goals

  • Influence decision-making at this senior level to determine most appropriate programmes, to engage senior management and gain buy-in for implementation

  • Consult and influence at more junior levels as appropriate

  • Exercise commercial judgement in order to ensure department is seen to add value

  • Consult firm wide to ensure buy-in and support for learning initiatives and to ensure accurate understanding of local need

  • Drive forward and carry out hands-on work within any area of the cycle (analysis, design, development, delivery, evaluation)

  • Provide guidance over the most effective format of learning, understanding how and when: face-to-face, online and blended approaches could be used

  • Advise and influence clients on the most pragmatic approach to take in any of these areas

  • Manage courses/projects and ensure they run successfully and within any agreed budget

  • Utilise knowledge of other specialists in the team or externally to facilitate effective implementation of initiatives

  • Ensure own L&D solutions are appropriate to the business and support the business strategy and key messages

  • Ensure that L&D solutions positively reinforce desired organisational and individual behaviour

  • Add L&D expertise to HR or firm wide projects where appropriate

  • Keep up-to-date with external L&D advances in order to inform best practice within the team

As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Solid experience in HRD gained within blue chip or professional services environment with a strong learning culture

  • Experience of using a wide range of tools in the analysis, design, development and evaluation of learning interventions

  • Experience of working with/managing external providers

  • Strong facilitation, training design and training delivery skills

  • Experience of working effectively across cultures

  • Experience of working effectively across teams/functions

  • Experience of supervising others

  • Strong organisational/self-management skills

  • Proven project management skills (single and multiple projects)

  • IT skills: Word, PowerPoint, Excel

  • Aware of the relationship between HR and L&D and the objectives of the business

  • Understanding of L&D in the context of a fee-earning, time-pressured environment
