The Team

 

The National Markets Consulting Team in the UK Midlands Region (principal offices Birmingham) currently consists of over 60 staff. The practice is growing very strongly. We want an experienced Senior Manager who is confident, while working with support, to be a work winner – the role is based in our Birmingham office.

 

The Role

 

The role reports to the People Consulting Director based in Birmingham.
  
People Consulting is an integral part of KPMG’s Management Consultancy practice and a growing part of our business. The team focuses on transforming the performance of organisations by changing the way people are lead, managed and developed. We do this by focusing on two areas of the change agenda 1) delivering the people agenda on large scale, complex, transformational change programmes and 2) transforming the HR function. We have five 4 service networks: Business transformation, HR Transformation, Learning and Workforce Optimisation

 

The People Consulting practice in the UK is growing, as we work to help companies and institutions deal with an increasingly complex world. We are looking for Advisors with proven experience gained across the following areas: 
1)    Behavioural change management - ensuring organisations realise the benefits of large scale change projects by embedding new behaviours and minimising the impact on the organisation during the change 
2)    Organisation development - target operating model development, organisation design, role clarity, performance management, organisational culture, employee development and reward/recognition 
3)    Transforming human resource functions - creating cost effective, integrated HR functions that contribute to the delivery of business strategy 
4)    Talent development - helping clients identify, retain and develop talent 
5)    Performance Management and Reward - designing reward strategies/incentive schemes, and performance management frameworks/processes 
6)    Workforce Optimisation – helping organisations get the most from their workforce, including strategic and operational workforce planning, terms and conditions of employment, TUPE, and reward and incentive management 
  
As well as working on standalone People Consulting Programmes, we also provide subject matter expertise to Projects led by other areas of KPMG Management Consulting such as Financial Management, Operational Transformation, Information Technology Advisory and Transactions and Restructuring. 
  
The Person 

The qualifications and skills for these roles are not prescriptive, but successful candidates should have extensive knowledge and skills in behaviour change management and at least 1 other area detailed above. They must also be able to demonstrate their capability, understanding and experience of a significant number of the following:
 
- Leading business development initiatives including bid, proposal and contract/commercial negotiation , (evidence of a network at around HRD level)
- Responsibility for standalone deliverables that add significantly to the overall success of a project or workstream 
- Commercial awareness evidenced by an ability to identify and grow business opportunities 
- Lead a team of KPMG professionals on client engagements and provide leadership and a shaping delivery approach
- Coach team members to ensure excellent client delivery whilst also enabling their career development 
- Acting as a subject matter expert in advising clients to maximise benefits while reducing risks 
- Managing competing agendas/priorities and establish achievable programmes/projects 
- Qualifications and/or accreditation in one or more psychometric assessments tool 
- Report to and demonstrate diplomacy when managing key stakeholders 
- Use your expertise, knowledge and experience to further develop and promote the core People & Change propositions 
- Take a significant role in the growth of the team and wider practice, sharing knowledge and supporting the development of other team members 

In addition, applicants should be able to demonstrate the following: 
- High levels of personal integrity and be a team player with commercial awareness 
- Strong drive and resilience to overcome challenges or difficult situations 
- Strong communication skills, written and oral 
- Team leadership experience 
- Strong proficiency with PowerPoint and Excel 
- Numeracy and the ability to handle complex date and analysis

 


Qualifications including CIPD, CIMA, MBA and Prince2 would be beneficial but not essential. 

Experience and Background 

The experience and background for these roles are not prescriptive, but successful candidates are likely to be able to demonstrate many of the following: 

- Experience of working for a major advisory business 
- Experience helping re-structure HR functions / teams to deliver a more optimised service; with deep, hands-on experience of HR (e.g. developing and delivering a workforce plan, target operating model etc) 
- Using knowledge, expertise and experience to support the development People and Change propositions 
- Responsibility for standalone deliverables that add significantly to the overall success of a project or workstream 
- Passionate about your discipline with a history of continuous learning 
- Commercial awareness evidenced by an ability to identify business opportunities 
- Comfortable with ambiguity and flexible in approach 
- Drive and resilience to overcome challenges or setbacks 
- Strong communicator able to build lasting client relationships
