Help our teams achieve their full potential – and more…
When you join the team at Worcestershire County Council, you can expect a friendly and supportive environment, where creative ideas are welcomed and innovation is celebrated. This is particularly relevant in our current climate where every council is being encouraged to make financial cuts – but we’re determined that these cutbacks won’t impact on the quality of service we offer to our local communities. In fact, we’re using this moment in time to devise better ways of working, and secure a workforce that is multi-talented and ready to tackle the future. And that’s precisely why we need you to join the team.
As a member of the Human Resources & Organisational Development leadership team, you will play an important strategic role in transforming the way we work with Worcestershire County Council staff. We are committed to ensuring these staff are achieving all that they are capable of, and that we have a team that is prepared for whatever the future holds. As such, you will develop and deliver interventions relating to key areas such as recruitment and retainment, managing and nurturing talent and rewarding those who are excelling in their roles. Taking responsibility for a specific client group, you will be working at a senior level with Directors and Heads of Service, identifying areas that need improvement and managing any resulting changes to ensure the transition period is seamless. Embedding new ways of working, your strategies will inspire enthusiasm amongst the ranks, ensuring that we are able to design and deliver high-quality services for the public.
This is a multi-layered role in a politically sensitive and customer-focussed environment, so your working day may incorporate anything from liaising with the Trade Unions to guiding the HR delivery teams on individual and organisational performance. You will therefore have outstanding verbal and written communication, negotiation and coaching skills, with the capacity to influence senior stakeholders and achieve results. With experience of developing long-term HR strategies, you will have proven knowledge of supporting the implementation of change initiatives plus expert technical HR knowledge including employment law. You will also have the capacity to forge mutually-beneficial relationships, and you will be able to apply insight and sector trends to inspire change for the better. A natural leader, you will ideally have a postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline, or you will be a Chartered Member of CIPD. If you don’t have either of these, then we will expect you to have the equivalent experience.
There has never been a more exciting time to join us. Our change programme is already underway, but we are keen to hear and act on more ideas on how else we can improve and develop the considerable talent in our team. As a supportive employer with a commitment to helping our staff excel in their roles, this is a role in which you can truly grow. Join us today, and explore where your career could take you.
