Welwyn, Hertfordshire , salary: £60,000 - £65,000

We are delighted to be working with our client, Isabel Hospice to recruit to this permanent role as Director of People. 
A long established and successful charity, Isabel Hospice is the only provider of Specialist Palliative Care to adults with life limiting illnesses in Eastern Hertfordshire. This is an exciting time to join Isabel – with a compelling new Vision of a world where:

Communities talk openly about death and dying. Everyone lives life to the full and dies with dignity in the place of their choice knowing their loved ones are supported.

Four key strategic themes will inform and drive their work over the next 5 years:

  • More – support and care for more people
  • Earlier – reach people earlier, enabling them to live as well as possible for longer
  • Educate – to share and leverage our expertise
  • Collaborate – and build partnerships to deliver effectively

Serving a population of around 370,000, either in the patient’s own home, nursing homes, our hospice day services or at our In-Patient Unit. We receive around 1200 referrals pa.

We expect to grow our current staff of 190 by 25% and our volunteer base of 700 is likely to double as we deliver this growth. Recruiting, developing, motivating, rewarding and retaining the best people will be key if we are to succeed with our ambitions, so we need an innovative People Director to join us to build on our excellent foundations and lead the next stage of our people journey. Collaboration with our neighbouring hospices is increasing in every aspect of our work and your experience of partnership working and collaborative models will help us move this to the next level.

As our new People Director you will help lead and shape the future of the whole organisation. Reporting to the Chief Executive, as a highly valued member of the leadership team, you will lead an experienced team to deliver excellent, high quality services. The core purpose of the role is to provide strategic leadership, support and direction so that the ‘people’ elements of our new strategy are delivered successfully.  Our aim is to be seen as an employer of choice and  at the leading edge of people management and development within the sector. You will demonstrate substantial experience of leading and managing an HR and Volunteers team, and also of developing and implementing strategic HR interventions.
