Job Description


KPMG provides Audit, Tax and Advisory services to its clients supported by a Central Services function.  Within Central Services, the firm has an established Procurement function resourced with qualified procurement professionals responsible for supporting the firm’s £400m+ expenditure on bought-in goods & services.  The Procurement function‘s objectives are:

  • To be regarded as an invaluable business partner by the firm’s Central Service functions (in particular Facilities, HR, Marketing and IT) and by the wider business functions (Audit, Tax, Advisory and Markets)
  • To drive the continuous improvement of third-party goods & services and minimise the risks associated with commercial contracting activities through the application of best-practice procurement across the firm
  • The development and implementation of best practice tools and systems that support the wider business with the purchase of third party goods and services and to support and promote effective supplier management and sustainable procurement activities.
  • To deliver year-on-year financial benefit to the firm

Overview of the Position / Key Responsibilities

Procurement’s sourcing activities are managed by category teams; Facilities, HR & Professional Services, Marketing, Technology and Travel.  Each category team is made up of category-specialist procurement professionals led by a Category Manager, each reporting to the Head of Procurement.  

The Procurement function is entering an exciting period of transformation and growth and has the support of senior executives to design, build and implement a P2P system across the UK firm.  Currently there is no firm-wide requisition or PO system so this will be a great step forward in being able to influence, demand channel and manage spend.  

The Strategic Sourcing Specialist will support the contract enablement activities associated with the P2P implementation and will work across a number of categories of spend.  They will be required to support the existing category resources and their activities will be varied and will include contract amendments/variations, tenders, catalogue creation and supporting general implementation activities.  The Strategic Sourcing Specialist will need to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Support the procurement teams with their strategic management of the categories.
  • Ability to interpret company accounts and highlight areas of concern
  • Significant ability to interpret data and understand the cost implications of supplier proposals
  • Support the category teams with contract enablement activities in preparation for P2P implementation, including, agreeing appropriate buying channels, renegotiation of contracts and review of contract pricing structures.

Procurement technical competencies

In particular the position requires:

  • Procurement experience, preferably in one or more of the category areas (Facilities, Technology, HR & Professional Services, Marketing & Travel) either in the form of leading low value/less complex procurement projects or supporting more complex sourcing activities
  • Literacy – ability to understand and author basic business documents including reports, business cases, terms of reference, Requests for Proposal, contract documentation etc.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent)
  • Working towards becoming a fully qualified member of CIPS
  • Relevant industry experience; Professional Services, Financial Services etc is desirable although not essential
  • General experience of working in a P2P environment  (desirable but not essential)
