A global mobility manager’s role is varied and runs through areas of both HR and finance. Therefore, a concrete understanding of HR policies, including compensation and benefits and balance sheets is essential. Managing and implementing global mobility support to clients of the organisation and providing guidance on ways to effectively deliver on global mobility is a key responsibility.

Your responsibilities as the global mobility manager will include:

  • Having an ability to develop and expand operational practices based on your assessment of the latest opportunities and income sources
  • Being responsible for the client’s contracts and making sure the company is adhering to policies
  • Liaising with senior management on various assignment correspondences; including HR policy issues and immigration
  • Preparing and carrying out client reviews, both at regional or global mobility management level depending on the requirements
  • Managing and maintaining all data, ensuring that this is safe and passed on to the clients
  • Meeting SLA (service level management) standards and achieving superior customer service

Global mobility manager skills and competencies

Most global mobility managers will be qualified to degree level, however this is not always a requirement. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential as is the ability to manage and strategise. You must be confident with numbers and computer software systems.

Global mobility managers will be expected to be proficient in the following:

  • Qualified to degree level. This is preferable but not essential
  • Must be personable with strong communication skills 
  • Strategic from a business development point of view  but also when it comes to reviewing performance
  • Previous management experience; people, finance and relationship management
  • Ability to interpret targets and data will be required. This could also include having an understanding of package review, payroll, reporting and cost processes
  • Confidence with overseeing training and performance appraisals
  • Conversant with computer software programmes, including word and excel

The average salary for the global mobility manager in the UK could be anything from £42,631 to £55,825.
