Where employers are looking to become leaner due to the current economic climate, there are likely to be implications for the entire workforce; increased workloads and levels of uncertainty. It's vital that absences are minimised so that employees are only absent from work when they are too ill or injured. Organisations need to reiterate this message to all employees, alongside the impact that unnecessary absences can have on individuals, their colleagues, team and organisation as a whole.

Managers should not be afraid to tackle sickness absence as sidelining the issue can often be the cause of many of the problems so how can you equip them to deal with the challenges of absence management, from the handling of ad hoc short-term absence through to long-term.
