Corporates: view charity & not for profit requests here

A lot of corporates want to help their local charities and not for profits, as well as third sector who are working at grass roots levels within their communities, and for society at large but often do not know where to start (read this posting: CSR & social justice).

On the flipside, there are a lot of severley under funded charities and not for profits who are crying out for corporate support.
One way of doing this is through corporates setting up CSR schemes which involves building into its workforce strategy employee assistance voluntary schemes, providing career guidance, mentoring and fundraising whether this is for schools, universities, charities, not for profits or the third world sector.

If you're a corporate that wants to set up such a scheme and is looking for a cause support then this is the place to come. Over the next few days, weeks, and months, I will be asking those that need your support to write down their case studies and the activities they are undertaking, to see if there's a way in which you would like to get involved in helping out.

    Elevation Networks

    http://www.elevationnetworks.co.uk

Elevation Networks is a student led initiative dedicated to bridging the gap between underrepresented groups and potential employers. At present we focus on women, students with disabilities, students from non-redbrick universities and ethnic minority groups. The Elevation Networks team endeavours to link ability with opportunity through corporate and social networking events. We believe it is important to identify individual talent and potential regardless of any perceived socio-biological disadvantage that aspiring young professionals and entrepreneurs may be confronted with. As a collective we believe that every individuals dream is important.

    Becoming a “Friend of EN”

Elevation Networks welcomes funding, sponsorship for our events and campaigns and association from corporate bodies. It is extremely rare to have student’s liaising on a one to one basis with individuals from otherwise exclusive companies. Thus a platform where we can provide students with the opportunity to learn first hand knowledge and receive well-informed and educated advice would not only be extremely beneficial to an aspiring young person but to any organisation seeking to have a more diverse workforce.

We hold a variety of networking events that introduce students to dynamic individuals who are at the forefront of industry. We have worked closely with Barclays Capital in our fist year as a network and we are looking forward to delving into other industries from media to engineering to accounting and many more. There are many different types of networking events that we could partner with to hold for our students, which can either be industry related or company specific.

    Supporting Our Campaigns

“Visible Women”, one of our key campaigns, aims to:·        To showcase and promote the presence of women within traditionally male dominated industries ·        Challenge statistics and highlight key companies organizations that encourage diversity in the workplace and endeavor to employ more women
    • Create networking opportunities for the aspiring to be inspired by “visible” women identified as role models
The three-pronged campaign looks at ways in which to Motivate, Develop and Prepare young women across the UK; to reinforce equality of opportunity between men and women and to overcome the barriers of discrimination faced by women because of their sex or other external factors such as ethnicity or disability. Visible Women seeks to promote equality, celebrate difference and believe that this campaign will help to combat the stigma traditionally attached to certain industries and introduce female students to a new and refreshing reality within the workplace. Working with key companies and organizations and drawing upon female professionals as key role-models and resource people for our female student membership, would help further our aims an inclusive working environment for our all members, through mentorship and networking. Are you interested in supporting us; if so please get in contact by emailing kate.johnson@elevation-networks.net.

Debate questions: What challenges have you faced whilst gaining access into your desired profession?

Do you feel there is sufficient awareness of the issues that confront those with disabilities?

Do you believe there is such a thing as the glass ceiling for aspiring female entrepreneurs?

    About Us:

Speaking Up is a multi-award winning charity that exists to give people with learning difficulties, mental health issues or a disability across the UK a voice and control over their lives so they can move away from a position of disadvantage and exclusion.

Our mission can be summed up in the three words: Voice | Action | Change. Put simply, if you give people a voice, they can take positive action and create change in their lives.

Having a voice is the key to unlocking the door to a better life – we have observed big differences in the lives of those people with a voice and those without. We combine innovative projects with country-wide advocacy services. We also share our unique knowledge and expertise through a thriving publications and consulting business.

    The people we help:

Speaking Up supports some of the most disadvantaged and excluded young people and adults in our society. Our projects support:

People with disabilities who, in comparison to their non-disabled peers, are:

    ·         more likely to live in poverty

    ·         less likely to have educational qualifications

    ·         more likely to experience hate crime or harassment

People with learning disabilities who, in comparison to their non-disabled peers, are:

    ·         more likely to have their children removed

    ·         less likely to be married or have sexual relationships

    ·         less likely to have contact with friends

    People with mental health problems:

    ·         At any one time one in four adults is facing some kind of mental health problem.

    ·         Mental health problems often co-exist with other issues including homelessness, poor physical health and learning disabilities

    ·         Only 21% of people with mental health problems who could work are in employment. Yet, this remains a real ambition for the majority of people with mental health problems.

     Supporting Speaking Up:

Speaking Up can offer a range of opportunities for private sector organisations to support our work and help transform the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our society. This can include financial support towards our projects, volunteering opportunities and gifts in kind.

We welcome organisations to contact us to discuss our work how we can work together on future projects.

Please contact Gemma Platt on 01223 516751 or Gemma@speakingup.org or visit our website to find out more:

    Thank you.

Re: Corporates: view charity & not for profit requests here

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO!

The S A F E Foundation is a registered charity which aims to assist poverty reduction in small communities that have little or no access to mainstream aid and assistance. We empower people at grass roots level to contribute to the development and progression of their own communities, rather than accept aid from large agencies that maintain a presence or some element of control over local initiatives. So, in simple terms, this means letting people make their own decisions about their lives. We sponsor indigenously run, community based projects that are under funded and remote, small or overlooked for other reasons. These initiatives are based all over the world. In Wales, we aim to raise awareness about sustainable poverty reduction and development issues, and introduce ways in which youth culture can actively engage with different geographical cultures. The foundation is run by five friends who are proud to be proactive in raising awareness of these issues in a language that young people can understand and relate to, being firmly integrated on the South Wales social scene.

    OUR PROJECTS

For the last two years we have been working on the development of four main projects, one of which is now complete, and the remainder being long term projects.

    Teens net Ghana.

This is a new project which aims to build a 'centre of hope' in Kumasi city in Ghana to accomodate, educate, feed, clothe and offer access to basic social and medical care to some of the cities orphans. There is nothing like this in the city yet, which has a population of over 2 million people.

    MYWA India

This project aims to improve education standards for tribal children who have recently been displaced from their homes in the jungle. The tribes have inhabited the jungle for centuries, but have recently been forced to leave by the government. They have been provided no infrastructure or compensatory resources, so MYWA are working towards facilitating these goals.

    GRM-SL Sierra Leone

In many countries women who are divorced or widowed are alienated from their society, so this project is building a cook shop for disempowered women to work in and win back their dignity and security through employment. The food will provide local labourers with their dinner and all proceeds will go towards the school fees of local children who cannot afford education.

     FINANCE!

Since the charity was established by Lucy Dickenson three years ago, the SAFE Foundation has been steadily growing ever since. We receive proposals frequently, some of which we can accept, some of which we cant. Unfortunately we do not have the necessary funds to support one full time member of staff to deal with the administration that comes with these proposals, and all 6 of us are working voluntarily when we can. We are currently seeking funding for one full time salary and some equipment that we need to improve our current system. Until recently we have made all our money through fundraisers, which are amazing awareness raisers in themselves, but extremely time consuming for our voluntary events organisers!
