Last year I mentioned National Take Your Dog to Work Day on my blog. As an early adopter of recruitment blogging in the UK I had the scoop on the story (no pun intended). This year everyone's talking about it. Firstly XpertHR has a gentle pop at the subject and then today HR Guru goes in with his usual non-too-subtle style.
XpertHR did a bit of proper research and found an article about how "Pet-friendly offices take the lead by letting the dogs in". I have to say I've never heard of a candidate asking if one of the benefits of the offered role is being allowed to take your dog to work.
I thought I ought to do some research myself so completed a highly scientific survey of the recruitment firm I used to work at (and still pester very regularly). Of the 7 people in the office this morning none had brought their dog to work. In fact they didn't even know it was Take Your Dog to Work Day. Apparently Charlotte was (and I quote) "traumatised as she hasn't taken her dog to work".
So, rather than motivating the team by allowed rovers to roam the corridors this event has lead to at least one unhappy, and surely less productive, owner.
