David Cooper took up the post of Director of HR at the Royal College of Nursing on 10
September, with responsibility for leading the HR team, supporting the
RCN’s change programme and developing and implementing HR policy and
strategy across the organisation.With a wealth of experience in
the public sector and professional and trade associations, including
board level positions in a number of organisations, David was the
Director for HR and Corporate Affairs at the East London and The City
Mental Health NHS Trust. He is a fellow of the Chartered
Institute of Personnel and Development and has recently worked as an
Associate National Officer at Managers in Partnership (Unison). David
also lectures part-time on a Postgraduate Diploma course in Human
Resources Management and on a Masters degree. Commenting on his
appointment, David said: "I am delighted to be joining the RCN and look
forward to the opportunity to apply my knowledge of Human Resources and
trade unions to the largest professional union of nursing staff in the
world. It is vital that the Human Resources functions are managed in a
way that enables staff to apply and develop their skills in a
supportive environment."
