Marsh, the world’s leading insurance broker and risk adviser, today announced the appointment of Michael Fitzgerald as Head of Human Resources in the UK. He will be responsible in this role for all aspects of Marsh UK’s HR management, including HR strategic development, recruitment, compensation and benefits, employee development and succession planning.

Mr Fitzgerald, who will report jointly to Martin South, CEO of Marsh UK and Ulf Larsen, Head of HR for Marsh in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, was previously Senior Vice President, European HR at ACE European Group. Prior to joining ACE, he held senior HR positions at Cigna International and Coventry Building Society. An engineer by background, he is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and has a masters degree in business administration from Warwick University.

Welcoming him to Marsh, Mr South said: “Mike is a tremendous addition to the UK management team. Combining strong technical skills with a sharp commercial focus, he has a proven track record in applying best-practice HR policies tailored to the insurance industry, as well as in shaping high-impact programmes to support the professional and career development of colleagues at all levels.

“For breadth of industry knowledge and expertise, client focus and commitment Marsh has an unrivalled workforce and Mike will play a key role in ensuring we continue to recruit, develop and retain the best in our industry.”

Mike Fitzgerald said: “I am very pleased to be part of Marsh at such an exciting time in its history. Since joining Marsh earlier this year Martin South has made clear the critical importance he attaches to having in place best-in-class HR policies and programmes to help the company achieve its growth ambitions. I look forward to working with my management colleagues and the HR team to ensure we deliver on that vision.”
