Every week, we ask a senior HR professional about the greatest challenge they have faced and how they dealt with it. This week, we hear from Nikki Hood, Head of Learning and Development for Yell.
“In a previous role I had to set up a new business unit from scratch, on my own, in a new market. It was a challenge to build the business plan, but the HR strategy to identify and recruit the best people was the toughest test, as I had no expertise in profiling the type of people we needed in this particular sector.
“I had to quickly get to grips with all the tools available to me to do the job and I also engaged another HR recruiter with expertise in the subject. Finding the right people to do the best job is still a huge challenge, but we have so many tools available now that I believe we have a better chance to identify and attract the talent we need.”
