HR Salary Survey, New Zealand 2007 - Robert Walters

Market Overview
2006 has seen a lot of movement in the human resources marketplace (particularly at the senior end), with many large New Zealand businesses being affected by large corporate restructures. The market remains candidate driven, with a particular lack of candidates in the $65-80k salary range. We have seen an increase in remuneration for HR Advisors with two to four years’ advisory experience as lack of quality candidates has enabled those with commercial exposure to command higher salaries.

The need for HR practitioners to be commercially focussed has continued and candidates need to ensure the solutions they are providing are aligned to business needs and the value add hits the bottom line. Learning and development, organisational development and training have been highly sought after skill sets this year. Over the past six months, there has been an increased focus within organisations around employment branding and attraction strategy. This is based on a tightening labour market and businesses looking to ensure they attract the right staff. Candidates with experience in this field are in high demand.

The HR contract market is buoyant with a continued demand for contractors to cover maternity leave and to fill project based roles.
